Outdoor Fresh air… keeping fit… caring for Nature… being part of a team…
On the Plaistow patch of the long and narrow Greenway is the Greenway Community Orchard. It is a beautiful, wild space with native fruit trees, native shrubs and flowers, bug hotels, places to sit, bird & bat boxes, raised beds for fruit and veg and much more. The area is maintained by volunteers.
The Green Gym volunteers meet every Thursday, in all seasons and weather, between 11 and 2pm and fulfil a contract with Newham Council to manage the site, keep it clear of rubbish, and make sure that nature thrives in it. PSBL holds the licence and is helping to build up an independent Green Gym group that we expect will take over from us in Autumn 2020, although we will continue to help where we can.
Hopefully the photos tell the story of the past year which ended with a harvest festival and ‘goodbye’ to Amanda the lead volunteer on 31st October. You can search the blog for other articles about the green gym. We have a shed here where we meet at 10.45 but for your first time it is best to see us on the site.
Accessibility issues: The nearest entrance is by Boundary Road and the Orchard is on this link. The toilets we use are a 5-10 minute walk to the hospital. The paths are of wood chippings and uneven. We can usually find tasks to fit most impairments and abilities. For more info text or ring 07957 534908 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
